Sharon Karaffa, Newmark Multifamily Capital Markets

Sharon Karaffa is president of Multifamily Debt & Structured Finance for Newmark’s Multifamily Capital Markets division. In this role, she oversees all aspects of Multifamily Debt & Structured Finance, focusing on revenue growth, business development and client and lender relationships. Karaffa also leads Newmark’s Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and FHA lending platforms. She serves on Newmark’s Executive Committee, Capital Markets Executive Committee and Multifamily Risk Management Committee.

Under her leadership, Newmark’s Multifamily Capital Markets platform experienced a 28-percentage point increase in multifamily investment sales volume financed through its debt platform and a nearly 60% in multifamily debt production volume overall. She came to Newmark in 2017 after serving in executive roles at Fannie Mae.

She is vice chair of Fannie Mae’s DUS Advisory Council and the organization’s Industry Talent Taskforce. Karaffa is also vice chair of the National Multifamily Housing Council Finance Committee and an Urban Land Institute Multifamily Platinum Council member. Her community efforts include serving as the board co-chair of the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

Karaffa received a B.S. in finance from the Smeal College of Business Administration at Pennsylvania State University.
