DLA Piper partner Michael Haworth focuses on commercial real estate transactions, often involving cross-border investments between the US, Asia and other jurisdictions. He advises real estate investors, lenders, and other market participants on real estate investment matters globally, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and financings. Haworth’s clients include regional and international investment fund representatives, asset managers, developers, banks, life insurance companies, family offices, and commercial real estate owners and operators.

In his recent transactions, Haworth advised Tokyu Land US Corporation in the $911-million mortgage, senior mezzanine and junior mezzanine refinancing of 425 Park Avenue in Manhattan from Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank and a consortium of Japanese lenders. He also represented Shimizu Realty Development in its $148-million acquisition of 535-545 Boylston Street, a 13-story office building in Boston, MA, from Investcorp International Realty and Brickman Associates. 

Haworth has also worked with numerous institutional lenders to establish Japanese lending programs, originate various nonrecourse loans, and purchase tokutei mokuteki kaisha bonds secured by real property located in Japan.
