Handles contract negotiations, bid protests and construction defect issues

Colm Nelson serves as the Chair of Stoel Rives’ Real Estate Industry Group and co-chair of the firm’s Construction and Design Group. He represents public owners, private owners and developers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, design professionals, brokers, and lenders in a variety of construction transactions, construction litigation, procurement, and real estate matters.

Other activities include contract negotiation, representation in bid protests, construction defects and property damage and procurement issues related to construction, services and goods.

Nelson enjoys developing a deep understanding of his clients’ particular businesses and then partnering with them to create forms, procure the appropriate insurance, and establish practical and effective procedures to reduce client risk.

Nelson also carefully created and implemented litigation strategies designed to navigate clients through each step of a complex lawsuit while meeting their needs.

These are some of the reasons why Colm Nelson received Connect CRE’s 2025 Seattle & Northwest Lawyers in Real Estate Award. The award celebrates real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice and the larger community.
