Cox, Castle & Nicholson Partner Sean Matsler is a leading land use attorney, focusing on real estate entitlements for development projects in and around Orange County. Over the course of more than 20 years, Matsler has been involved in entitlement efforts that have resulted in over 100,000 residential units and tens of millions of square feet of industrial, office, commercial, and other non-residential uses.

He advises clients on compliance with a myriad of local, state, and federal laws and regulations that govern real estate developments. Matsler represents the developers in Dana Point Harbor’s $600-million renovation, Related California on a 41-acre, master-planned, mixed-use project in Santa Ana, and Trammell Crow on development projects throughout Southern California.

Matsler is a member of Cox Castle’s Management Committee and a part of the Strategic Team Committee.

He has served as an Advisory Board Member and Vice Chair for ULI NEXT. Additionally, he was a member of the City of Newport Beach Bicycle Master Plan Oversight Committee and participated in the ULI’s Sustainable Communities Initiative Council and Young Leaders Group.

Matsler has been included on the Orange County Business Journal’s OC 500 list and is ranked by Chambers USA. These are some of the reasons why Sean Matsler received Connect CRE’s 2025 California Lawyers in Real Estate Award. The award celebrates real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice and the larger community.
