Went from research analyst to associate vice president in four years

As vice president with CBRE, Sonya Schmidt specializes in office and industrial tenant representation. Her service expertise includes strategic and financial consulting, transaction management, lease negotiations/restructuring, and acquisitions and dispositions of real estate assets.

Schmidt is a first-generation American, having escaped the Soviet Union with her family at age 11. During her 18-year career, she has worked as a successful commercial real estate broker in the downtown LA area and is one of only a handful of women in her market and specialty.

Schmidt began her career at Grubb & Ellis, rising through the ranks from research analyst to associate vice president in four years. She entered the top 20 in her region during her second year in the business. Schmidt also had the title of managing director with Studley (now Savills).

She has always found time to mentor other females in the business. Today, she volunteers as the Los Angeles delegate for CBRE’s Women’s Network. Additionally, she teaches CBRE’s “Foundations Live” seminars to support other new brokers in sales training. Schmidt received the CBRE Women’s Network Growth Award.

In the community, she volunteers with the YWCA and the Downtown Women’s Shelter. She is also a member of the Central City Association, the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, CoreNet Global and CREW.
