SVP of events for Marcus & Millichap

Unwavering in commitment and dedication after 25 years on job

Michelle Cocagne is the Senior Vice President of events at Marcus & Millichap, where she has successfully served the brokerage for 25 years. She drives revenue for the company through her seamless planning and execution of high-profile events around the country. Beyond her broad professional skills, feedback on her ability to create and manage events of any size, making them look easy when they are in fact one of, if not the toughest professional service jobs in the business, is unparalleled.

One thing that has been particularly inspirational about Cocagne is that even after two decades with the firm, she is unwavering in her commitment and dedication. “Michelle’s attention to detail, meticulous planning, care for our internal team and clients and creating experiences through our numerous events for both groups are as sharp now as they were when we first started working together,” said Hessam Nadji, President and CEO, Marcus & Millichap.

Cocagne leads an events team responsible for organizing and carrying out Marcus & Millichap’s participation in hundreds of commercial real estate trade shows, conferences, and other industry-related events annually. She is also responsible for all the company’s award ceremonies, company addresses, client webcasts, webinars, etc.

Cocgane’s team plans, organizes, and oversees the firm’s two largest annual award ceremonies, the National Achievement Awards (NAA), which honors the accomplishments of the firm’s top investment and capital markets professionals, and SIA Weekend, a major company event that inducts qualifying investment and capital markets professionals into the firm’s upper echelon and celebrates all previous inductees.

Held on a rotating basis at world-class resort hotels in Hawaii, Mexico, and Central America, NAA is attended by hundreds annually, including Marcus & Millichap’s founders, president and CEO, senior management, and the firm’s top sales and financing professionals and their families. SIA is held in one of the nation’s top resort hotels, is attended by an average of 350 people.

These two highly anticipated key events celebrate the extraordinary successes Marcus & Millichap’s sales and financing teams achieve on behalf of clients and contribute significantly to the firm’s culture of inclusiveness and collaboration. These and the myriad of other events Michelle and her team put on every year contribute to Marcus & Millichap’s ability to retain and grow its sales force of nearly 2,000 investment and finance professionals in the United States and Canada.

To plan and conduct one NAA Award ceremony or SIA Weekend would be the capstone of many an event planner’s career. Cocagne has done them with great success every year since 1998 and while these multi-day ceremonies honor the traditions they have established over their long history, they are always unique.

Despite challenges that inevitably arise in the business of event management, Michelle’s enthusiasm is unwavering. “She is always willing to go above and beyond. Her ability to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining a high level of professionalism and creativity is truly remarkable,” Nadji said.

These are just a few reasons we chose Michelle Cocagne as one of the California Connect CRE’s 2023 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and play key mentorship roles for others.
