Launched a company to help minority and/or female sponsors raise capital
Created the company's Small Change Index to evaluate properties on ESG factors
Eve Picker is the founder and CEO of Small Change. Developers use this real estate crowdfunding platform to raise capital for real estate projects with social impact and by individuals who want to invest their money in meaningful ways. Picker launched the platform in 2016 to address the difficulty faced by minority and/or female sponsors in raising capital for projects.
Furthermore, to assess ESG impact, Picker created the proprietary Small Change Index, which evaluates projects on ESG-related factors. Only projects that score above 60% on the index qualify for a listing on the platform.
A third issue the platform addresses is that real estate investment has long been the purview of wealthy, accredited investors. On Small Change, anyone over the age of 18 — accredited or not — can invest. In just over five years, Small Change enabled 38 developers to raise over $10 million for projects in 20 cities, big and small, across the United States. Over half of the projects have either a minority and/or female sponsor, 65% have included affordable housing and 78% have been located in underserved communities.
U.S. News & World Report has named Small Change one of the top seven real estate crowdfunding platforms. The firm’s success is closely tied to Picker’s commitment to democratizing real estate.
These are just a few of the reasons we chose Eve Picker as one of Connect CRE’s National 2022 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
