Scott Rechler Expands RXR’s Residential Investment Playbook

Company:

RXR

Scott Rechler has spent decades building real estate investment platforms, first at Reckson Associates Realty Corp. and, since 2007, at RXR. Today, Rechler’s focus is to grow RXR’s residential strategy.

While at Reckson, Rechler took the company public in 1995 and served as chairman and CEO until the company was sold for more than $6 billion in 2006. He founded RXR, which has since raised more than $10 billion in private equity.

In January 2026, RXR acquired a 45% stake in a $435-million Upper East Side luxury residential portfolio that includes a 295-unit rental tower and 20 townhouses. In Brooklyn, RXR committed $185 million in equity to a $785-million capitalization for a 27-story mixed-use development at 175 Third St., which is planned to include approximately 1,100 residential units.

RXR also established a $500-million separate account with the North Carolina Investment Authority to pursue more than $2 billion in residential projects nationally. The partnership’s first investment was a $64.25-million structured-equity commitment to a 327-unit multifamily development at the former Paradise Valley Mall site in Phoenix.

Another component of RXR’s residential strategy is converting underutilized office properties into housing. Through its capital solutions platform, the company has pursued office-to-residential projects representing more than 4,000 planned units.

These are some of the reasons why Scott Rechler was selected to receive ApartmentBuildings.com’s AB 100 Investor/Owner of the Year Award, which recognizes those who demonstrate creativity, skill and success in the multifamily industry.
