Michael Reyes, with Opportunity Home, Spearheads Affordable Housing Transformations in San Antonio

Company:

Opportunity Home San Antonio

Michael Reyes, President and CEO of Opportunity Home San Antonio, brings more than 24 years of national and international policy, public affairs and housing experience to his leadership of Texas’s largest public housing authority.

He oversees nearly 600 employees, a $250-million annual operating budget, more than $500 million in assets, and Strategy 2037, a $2.5 billion initiative that preserves and expands nearly 15,000 affordable homes and modernizes them.

He recently oversaw the groundbreaking for Central at Commerce, an $86.9-million, 279-unit Eastside development undertaken with The Annex Group, the City of San Antonio and USAA. The community will serve households earning 30% to 70% of the area median income and includes 30 units for Haven for Hope supportive housing referrals.

Reyes secured Opportunity Home’s first national credit rating in its 89-year history, earning an A+ rating from Standard & Poor’s. He also helped restructure approximately 6,000 public housing units through HUD’s Rental Assistance Demonstration program.

In addition to his workday, Reyes is active in the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities, Public Housing Authorities Directors Association, National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, and Texas Housing Association. He also has testified before the U.S. House Appropriations T-HUD Subcommittee on San Antonio’s affordable housing efforts.

He has earned multiple NAHRO Awards of Merit and has been recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal.

These are some of the reasons why Michael Reyes was selected to receive ApartmentBuildings.com’s AB 100 Dealmaker of the Year Award, which recognizes those who demonstrate creativity, skill and success in the multifamily industry.
