Serving as land use counsel to The Coney in its bid for a casino license

Works with developers to obtain discretionary land use approvals

As a partner in Sheppard Mullin’s Real Estate, Energy, Land Use and Environmental practice group, Jodi Stein works with real estate developers in obtaining discretionary land use approvals through New York City’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure and before the Board of Standards and Appeals. Part of her duties include negotiating and drafting air rights transactions, easements and restrictive declarations.

Stein is serving as land use counsel to The Coney in its bid for one of three downstate New York casino licenses, which will involve developing a $3.4-billion casino and entertainment complex on Coney Island. Another milestone achieved by Stein and her team includes securing final City Council approval of essential city map changes—a major, years-long process.

Stein mentors women at the firm. She is a founding member of the Brooklyn Law School Women’s Leadership Circle, a Cabinet Board Member for the Jewish National Fund (JNF) Real Estate Board, and a member of the Land Use, Planning and Zoning Committee of the NYC Bar Association. She serves on the Real Estate Board of New York’s Zoning and Design Committee.

Stein offers pro bono assistance through HerJustice, as well as land use and zoning assistance to The Bronx Land Trust and the Interfaith Affordable Housing Coalition.

She has been listed in Chambers USA (Leading Partner), Legal 500 US (Land Use/Zoning) and Best Lawyers in America. Crain’s New York Business named her among its Notable Women in Law.

These are just a few reasons Jodi Stein is among the New York & Tri-State Connect CRE 2025 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and taken on mentorship roles.
