Led the team in developing a financing structure totaling $700 million in debt

Advised a client on a mezzanine financing for a $1.7-billion redevelopment

Michael Berman is a Partner in the Real Estate Department at Paul Hastings in Washington, DC and New York, and a member of the firm’s Real Estate Private Equity practice. He represents debt funds, lending institutions, private equity firms, developers, investors, and operators in sophisticated commercial real estate transactions, with a focus on real estate private equity.

Berman and his team advised global investment firm Carlyle on its strategic investment in North Bridge ESG. The partnership includes up to $1 billion to support the origination of commercial property assessed clean energy (C-PACE) loans nationwide.

He also led a team in representing Greystar in developing a financing structure secured by a nine-property national portfolio of Class A, garden-style multifamily communities. The transaction comprised a $598.5-million senior loan, a $50.8-million senior mezzanine loan, and a $50.8-million junior mezzanine loan.

Berman also led the execution of groundbreaking mandates in New York, which include advising Oaktree on a mezzanine financing for the $1.7-billion redevelopment of Terminal Warehouse in Chelsea.

These are some of the reasons why Michael Berman received Connect CRE’s 2025 Washington DC & Mid-Atlantic Lawyers in Real Estate Award. The award celebrates real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice and the larger community.
