Represented private equity firm in 108,000-square-foot development rights purchase

Served as counsel to secure $129 million in financing for a 24-story tower

Focusing exclusively on New York City zoning and land use matters, Akerman Partner Nora Martins handles the legal intricacies of developing New York City projects. She shepherds clients through various project application processes, from mid-size affordable housing buildings to complex large-scale and mixed-use waterfront developments. She frequently appears before New York City agencies and entities on behalf of her clients.

She has been a critical component of Akerman’s New York Land Use and Zoning Practice, serving as the Akerman lead on many projects, including representation of a private equity firm on the purchase of 108,000 square feet of development rights (in coordination with another New York Land Use Partner) and as zoning counsel to secure $129 million in financing for a new 24-story tower in Manhattan’s Alphabet City neighborhood. Also, in coordination with another New York Land Use partner, Martins represented Mega Development LLC in selling property at 101 East 118th Street in East Harlem. She led the Ackerman team in securing land use and zoning approvals for a 611-unit waterfront site at 375 West 207th Street in the Inwood neighborhood.

Martins regularly mentors younger associates by providing career development advice and explaining challenging real estate and land use concepts. She is a member of Akerman’s Women Initiative Network (WIN). She has been an active member of the ULI NEXT New York program and participates in Akerman’s firm membership in the New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH) and the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY). Martins also offers pro bono assistance to a nonprofit organization attempting to develop an economic hub in the Bronx.

Martins has been honored as GlobeSt’s Aspiring Leader in CRE and has received the Fordham Law Women’s Alumnae Santangelo Alumna Mentorship Award.

These are just a few reasons why Eleanore C. Martins is one of the New York & Tri-State Connect CRE 2024 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and taken on mentorship roles.
