M. Shannon Underwood launched Gartland Development in 1993 and was joined by her husband in 1997. A boutique firm with limited staff, the company manages each development, from land acquisition to stabilization. Gartland builds its portfolio and generally holds properties long-term. The project size ranges from 27,000 to 450,000 square feet.
The company has been ahead of the curve in submarkets, including Everett, WA.
Underwood’s practice is to go “all-in” with organizations she commits to and serves on the boards of most organizations she joins. Roles have included president of NAIOP Washington State and a NAIOP national organization board member. She has also served as Advisory Board Chair at the University of Washington Runstad Department of Real Estate.
