As the director of sustainability and energy at L+M Development Partners, Laura Humphrey leads the company’s effort to build better communities with an innovative and climate-forward perspective. She draws from her experience as a former decarbonization consultant who advised Fortune 500 companies on planning for a cleaner future, all with a keen understanding of business strategy and accounting in mind. In advancing L+M’s sustainability efforts and energy and data practices, Humphrey created a department that combines best industry practices with her professional acumen to ensure that L+M continues to be a leader in sustainable development.
A typical day could find her consulting with the development team on how to achieve net zero carbon emissions at our sites, working with L+M’s property management team to put new operational practices in place to reduce energy intensity, or working with senior leaders to navigate critical decisions in the ESG strategy.
In one instance, Humphrey worked closely with the New York Federal Reserve to provide guidance and a case study for its recent white paper on financing decarbonization retrofits in affordable housing. She also led efforts for recognition by the NYC Accelerator for the company’s efforts to decarbonize its portfolio.
Humphrey is a sought-after speaker and media source. She is also an indispensable source for the next generation of leaders and as a career mentor to L+M’s intern classes.
