Yang Chen is Managing Director of Colliers’ Asia Pacific Division overseeing North America. Her team provides services in all sectors of commercial real estate, including industrial, office, R&D, retail and residential.
Chen supports Asian investors, landlords and tenants in establishing or expanding their footprints in the North American market, while also supporting North American landlords and sellers in enhancing their relationships with Asian business partners. Chen possesses language and cultural fluency in both English and Chinese, which she uses to improve communication and foster relationships with a diverse range of clients.
For Asian clients, the language, cultural, regulatory, and logistical barriers to entering North America can sometimes seem insurmountable, but experience combined with a network of experts to call on has enabled Chen to help clients smoothly navigate these challenges. At the same time, Chen’s background and relationships provide international marketing exposure to North American companies that broadens the pool of quality tenants or buyers.
Among her achievements was a successful 1.2-million-square-foot leasing deal on behalf of a tenant, a publicly traded manufacturing company, whose entire executive team was in located in China. Meanwhile, the landlord team was in Arizona. Because of all the language, cultural, regulatory and logistical barriers, the transaction required extra communication and negotiations. Chen did it all, hosting the necessary calls and meetings—what’s even more remarkable is that she did so while pregnant. The deal closed before her due date, and after giving birth to her first newborn, she worked on the same day.
Chen also believes in work-life balance. She is an excellent cook who loves to try new delicious and healthy recipes.
