Michael Clawar

Michael Clawar developed and built StratoDem, a groundbreaking analytics company. In selling the company to Altus Group, he took on the role of Altus’ Vice President of Data Science.

In this position, Clawar runs the company’s data science team, focusing on building models to explain performance, creating forecasts for asset-level income growth and market-level income growth, and working around problems relating to environmental risk, an issue of increasing importance for commercial real estate investors.

As part of Altus Group, StratoDem helps REITs, private equity funds, operators, developers and advisory firms involved with senior housing and multifamily residential make investment, development, disposition and marketing decisions faster, earlier, and better. The team builds predictive models on massive local-level economic and demographic data.

With the resources of Altus Group, Clawar and his team are innovating at a scale that is typically impossible as a startup. The team continues to spin up product ideas at a rapid pace, more than a dozen per month, at times. The group assesses problem statements and determines how to create analytics to solve them. Altus’ reach and breadth with trusted clients is providing Clawar and the StratoDem team with unprecedented ability to test and learn in the real world with real clients, who provided feedback at every stage of innovation.

Clawar revolutionized what it means to extend accurate local data to those in the CRE space. He continues to share his knowledge. For example, his recent findings resulting from pandemic-directed migration flows were presented to and published in the Association for International Real Estate Investors (AFIRE).”
