Works with local universities to mentor and guide young professionals interested in CRE

Melanie Haynes was recently promoted to the title of Director with Cushman & Wakefield in San Diego, a short time after beginning her commercial real estate career in late 2017. In that short time, Haynes has already built a name for herself as a thoughtful and trusted advisor to clients in the industry.

She has brokered more than 160 transactions totaling 1 million square feet, and 2,500 land acres valued at a total consideration of more than $100 million. Even in the midst of the pandemic’s challenges, Haynes maintained focus and commitment.

During the past 24 months, she helped lead leasing efforts for Co-Lab Vista, a Joe Deutsch brewery, winery and restaurant communal concept, successfully bringing the project to 100% occupancy during the pre-lease phase. Haynes also brokered a 40,000-square-foot, long-term lease with a growing biotech company (one of more than a dozen biotech deals she spearheaded). She also represented Hemlock Hat Co., helping that lifestyle brand grow its real estate footprint in Carlsbad, CA with a 42,000-square-foot facility.

As one of the few women brokers in the San Diego commercial estate industry, Haynes is committed to paving a path for other young women to get into the business and pursue brokerage; she enjoys sharing her experiences and knowledge with others beginning their own careers. She is a member of Cushman & Wakefield’s Women’s Integrated Network; of NAIOP and of CREW Network. She also works with local universities and lends her time mentoring and guiding young professionals interested in CRE.

In the community, Haynes actively supports Sole Hope-Uganda, which helps children obtain shoes to protect their feet from jiggers. She also participates in Cushman & Wakefield’s Future Leaders (CWFL) volunteer week, with a focus on Meals on Wheels, food drives and Toys for Tots. Additionally, Haynes has supported charitable organizations including Boys to Men Mentoring, Casa Del Mar and Gasparilla Music Foundation.

These are just a few reasons we chose Haynes as one of California’s 2022 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s sixth annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.
