Jonathan F.P. Rose Focuses on Housing Investments and Resilient Cities
Jonathan F.P. Rose founded Jonathan Rose Companies in 1989 and remains its CEO and board chair. The firm has become one of the nation’s largest acquirers of affordable and mixed-income housing, developing investment strategies around the intersection of housing, community development and environmental resilience.
The Rose Companies has preserved and modernized nearly 20,000 homes, about 90% of them affordable, and has $4.6 billion in assets under management.
That approach continues to attract institutional capital. In July 2025, Jonathan Rose Companies closed its sixth affordable housing preservation fund with more than $660 million in equity commitments, bringing the firm’s preservation-fund series to more than $1.5 billion. Approximately 75% of Fund VI’s commitments were generated from repeat investors.
The fund targets affordable and mixed-income multifamily properties in markets including New York, Boston, Chicago, Southern California, Seattle, Denver and Washington, D.C. Its strategy combines preserving long-term affordability with energy-efficiency improvements and resident services designed to expand access to economic opportunity.
Fund VI targets reductions of 20% in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions and 15% in water consumption over 10 years, with properties evaluated for cost-effective improvements such as high-efficiency HVAC, water-saving fixtures and rooftop solar.
Rose is the author of The Well-Tempered City and has been honored by the Urban Land Institute.
These are some of the reasons why Jonathan F.P. Rose was selected to receive ApartmentBuildings.com’s AB 100 Investor/Owner of the Year Award, which recognizes those who demonstrate creativity, skill and success in the multifamily industry.
