Arranged $148.5-million construction and lease-up refinancing
Secured an equity partner to acquire a distressed note backed by land
In his role as senior director and senior vice president for Northmarq, James Currell originates and structures debt and equity solutions for commercial real estate clients. He is a strategic advisor throughout the capital stack, helping clients navigate complex transactions from underwriting through closing.
Notable deals include arranging the $148.5-million construction completion and lease-up refinancing for a 40-story tower in downtown San Diego on behalf of Diamond Realty Investments, Mitsubishi’s U.S. real estate investment arm. Currell also secured an equity partner to acquire a distressed note backed by raw land in Phoenix, AZ.
Within Northmarq, Currell has been on the Producers Council, which is reserved for the firm’s top 10% of producers. He is committed to mentoring junior professionals and participates in hiring decisions for the Dallas office.
Currell supports the Justice Reform Foundation and has been involved with financial literacy programs for inner-city youth and mentoring through the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. These are just a few reasons we chose James Currell as one of Connect CRE’s Texas 2025 Next Generation Award winners. Connect CRE’s annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders who will have a strong influence on the commercial real estate industry.
