Dennis Kerbel is the Chair of Akerman’s Florida Land Use and Entitlements Practice. With a concentration in land use law, Kerbel guides clients through complex governmental approval processes, ensuring optimal outcomes whether through negotiation, administrative proceedings, or, when necessary, litigation.

He has represented clients in federal and state courts at the trial and appellate levels. He has handled matters including zoning appeals, enforcement actions, and federal civil rights claims, consistently achieving favorable results for his clients.

He led Akerman’s representation of VSGS Facilities LLC in securing approval from the Homestead City Commission for a landmark Ground Lease and Development Agreement. The Commission approval authorized the development of the Sports Performance Hub of Miami-Dade. Kerbel was also a member of the team representing The Continuum Company in securing unanimous approval from the North Bay Village Commission for the Continuum Waterfront District Special Area Plan and Master Plan.

Kerbel is an adjunct law professor at the Florida International University College of Law and the St. Thomas University School of Law, where he teaches Land Use Law and Florida Constitutional Law. He was recently appointed as Chair of the Miami-Dade County Charter Review Task Force.

Kerbel was included in U.S. News’ annual Best Lawyers List. Legal 500 USA has also recognized him.
