DLA Piper partner Geoff Howell represents regional and national owners, developers, and lenders in complex commercial real estate transactions. He represents landlords at major mixed-use office and life sciences complexes throughout the country and is leasing counsel for numerous tenants.
Howell’s leasing work includes representing the landlord in one of the largest commercial leases in the history of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (1.3 million square feet for office and lab use). He also represented Pfizer in its 230,000-square-foot lease for its West Coast R&D headquarters and Beth Israel Lahey Hospital in developing a 450,000-square-foot in-patient cancer treatment in partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Howell’s pro bono work includes representing several small non-profits in their headquarters leasing and construction projects. He also represented the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance in acquiring and developing its headquarters building in the Dorchester section of Boston. Additionally, Howell led an eviction rights clinic for the Housing Unit of Greater Boston Legal Services.
He serves on the Executive Committee of MassEcon’s Board of Directors, is a Corporate Member, and was a past member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for Greater Boston Legal Services. His other community contributions include being an associate board member for A Better City, Inc.
This is why Geoff Howell received Connect CRE’s 2024 Boston & New England Lawyers in Real Estate Award. The award celebrates real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice and the larger community.
