Allison Nelson is co-deputy chair of Akerman’s National Real Estate Practice Group. The group comprises over 160 attorneys and real estate professionals across 24 U.S. offices. Her nationally focused practice has made her a leader in representing healthcare systems in complex real estate transactions, mergers, and acquisitions.
Nelson negotiates compliant sales and acquisitions, joint venture developments, and leases, ground leases and subleases. She partners with clients to build and improve systems to manage real estate portfolios to ensure compliance with federal and state healthcare regulatory laws. She is also experienced in navigating clients through real estate compliance investigations by the U.S. Office of Inspector General. Her team works on more than 300 transactions per year, ranging from leases to mergers and acquisitions and real estate development projects.
As outside real estate counsel, Nelson represents one of the largest healthcare companies in the nation, as well as one of the top dialysis providers in the country. She also represents regional and smaller medical practice groups in acquiring, developing, and leasing medical properties. She recently closed several transactions involving the ground-up development of 100,000-square-foot medical office buildings, each exceeding $100 million in construction costs.
Within Akerman, Nelson is a Women’s Initiative Network steering committee member. In her spare time, she teaches martial arts to children, seniors, and Parkinson’s disease patients in Golden, CO, including classes in Tae Kwon Do, Tai Chi, and Chi Kung.
Nelson contributes to thought leadership pieces and presents at industry conferences. Recognitions and awards include Connect CRE’s Lawyers in Real Estate. She has been listed in Colorado for Real Estate Law by The Best Lawyers in America and named a Rising Star in Colorado by Super Lawyers. She has been recognized as a Top Lawyer in Real Estate by 5820 Magazine.
