James W. Grice

James W. Grice is co-chair of Akerman’s Data Centers and Digital Infrastructure Practice. He launched the practice in July 2022. His practice focuses on representing investors, developers, operators, and users in the data center and digital infrastructure realm. He works with clients on standalone data center asset purchases and divestitures, including campus acquisitions, acquisition of sites to be redeveloped as data centers, and sale and leasebacks of data center assets. He has significant experience advising his clients on the legal complexities associated with all aspects of data center operations, leasing, subleasing, co-location and related services.

Notable highlights include advising developer clients with the acquisition, financing, development and construction of more than 24 data center campuses throughout the United States and Latin America with a total capacity exceeding four gigawatts.

He represented Singapore REIT in an acquisition of 29 facilities in the United States and Canada for $1.4 billion, a United Kingdom REIT in the potential acquisition of five U.S. facilities valued at more than $500 million and a Singapore REIT in the potential acquisition of three U.S. facilities valued at more than $300 million.

He was also one of the Akerman team leads representing a New York-based purchaser/landlord in a $265-million sale-leaseback transaction of a 31-acre, 575,000-square-foot Silicon Valley campus with Seagate Technology as the seller/tenant.

He is a member of the Kansas, Missouri and Texas Bars. Grice has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America. He earned his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
