As CBRE Senior Vice President and an expert in the company’s Capital Markets business line, Dan Grimes specializes in office dispositions, recapitalizations and capital placement on behalf of institutional clients. He is part of the Washington, DC Institutional Properties team, where he has worked with high-profile investors and owners in the market and industry, including Boston Properties, Beacon Capital Partners, Brookfield Properties, Investcorp, JBG Smith and Angelo Gordon.

Grimes has also been instrumental in building CBRE’s Mid-Atlantic life sciences practice, with a particular focus on the bourgeoning I-270 Maryland bio-tech corridor. His contributions have helped CBRE achieve a 70% market share within this sought-after asset class.

Grimes joined CBRE in 2014 as a Senior Associate, working in the company’s Tysons Corner, VA office. Early in his career, Grimes, while with Bank of America’s Corporate Investments Group, Grimes participated in complex, multi-billion-dollar financial transactions. He helped guide the reduction of the bank’s debt and foreign currency exposure through strategic balance sheet hedges. The skills learned at Bank of America helped shape Grimes’ innovative and analytical approach on real estate investments.

Grimes is active in several local charities, including Relay for Life, Shatterproof and March of Dimes. He served on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes for four years, leading sponsorship efforts for that organization’s “Golf for Babies” tournament, which has raised more than $3.8 million to date.

According to CBRE Managing Director Brad Flickinger, “In his eight years at the firm, Dan has made an incredible impact, particularly in the booming life sciences space. More importantly however, Dan does well by his clients while doing good for his community; a very powerful combination.”

These are just a few reasons we chose Grimes as one of Washington, DC’s 2022 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s sixth annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.
