Assisted with $157-million acquisition and financing of industrial portfolio

Represented equity firm in $72-million construction loan

A partner in DLA Piper’s Washington, DC Real Estate practice, Lauren Rico represents private equity funds, investment managers, family offices, insurance companies, commercial banks, developers and other institutional investors in various commercial real estate transactions. Her practice focuses on acquisitions and dispositions of real estate and interests in real estate, complex single-asset, multi-asset and multi-jurisdictional real estate financing transactions, creating joint ventures for owning, developing and managing real estate assets and commercial leasing.

Rico led the DLA Piper real estate team on dozens of matters on behalf of DC-based investment manager, Artemis Real Estate Partners, including acquisitions, joint ventures, construction contracts, and financing across asset types. A notable transaction was the $157 million acquisition and financing of a five-property industrial portfolio in Fort Worth, TX. She also represented a New York-based private equity firm in a $72 million construction loan to develop a 175,000-square-foot, 133-unit apartment building with ground-floor retail in Brooklyn, NY.

Rico is a mentor and knowledge resource for the junior lawyers in the DLA Piper real estate group. Meanwhile, in the community, Rico performs pro bono work. She has been a member of the Young Lawyers Committee for Legal Counsel for the Elderly. She participates in the Election Protection program the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law runs.

She’s been listed in the Legal 500 United States as a “Next Generation Partner, Real Estate” and “Recommended, Real Estate.” Chambers USA named her “Up and Coming, District of Columbia Real Estate” and “Associate to Watch, District of Columbia Real Estate.”

These are just a few reasons Lauren Rico is among the winners of the Washington DC Connect CRE 2024 Women in Real Estate Award. Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and taken on mentorship roles.
