Keith Barnett

Keith Barnett is co-chair of Proskauer Rose’s Real Estate Department. In this role, he advises international, national, and local clients in commercial real estate. These include real estate finance, development, acquisitions, sales, and leasing. With over 30 years in the industry, Barnett represented various clients, including private equity fund sponsors, developers, life insurance companies, commercial banks, and some of the world’s largest publicly traded and private retailers.

Barnett also has experience with traditional mortgage loans, mezzanine loans, preferred equity investments, so-called “bond leases,” “synthetic leases,” and other accounting and tax-sensitive transactions.

Recent deals include luxury hotel and condominium projects, multibillion-dollar retail-anchored mixed-use developments, large distribution centers and multifamily residential projects.

For over a decade, Barnett conducted graduate-level seminars for business, architecture and real estate students at MIT, New York University and Columbia University. He frequently taught Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education courses on commercial real estate law basics and presented to many in-house business and legal groups.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees and the Medical Credentials Committee of The New England Baptist Hospital and Chair of the hospital’s Real Estate Committee. He is also an American College of Real Estate Lawyers fellow and an NAIOP member. Barnett is recognized by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, The Legal 500 United States and “New England Super Lawyer” in Real Estate Law (Boston).

Barnett received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and was part of the Michigan Law Review.
