Djaha Structures Major Joint Ventures Across Credit and Development Strategies

Company:

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP

Alex Djaha is a Senior Associate in the real estate practice group at Debevoise & Plimpton. He structures and negotiates joint ventures across a range of investment strategies, including credit origination, vertical development, co-GP platforms, preferred equity and stabilized operating portfolios. Djaha is the client relationship lead and manages all aspects of the real estate group’s representations for various institutional clients. Additionally, he developed and continues to oversee the real estate group’s credit fund platform initiatives.

Representative matters include advising the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board on the $2.2-billion sale of its interests in the Goodman North American Partnership and working with the Carlyle Group to originate construction loans and secure warehouse, repo and note-on-note financings across multiple joint ventures with Slate Property Group. Djaha also advised Cohen Private Ventures on its $2.4-billion acquisition of the New York Mets.

Djaha has an active pro bono practice, advising nonprofit organizations across New York City on leasing and financing negotiations, and development and construction projects. Pro bono clients include Weeksville Heritage Center, Getting Out and Staying Out, Manhattan Legal Services and Nazareth Housing.

He is the principal real estate advisor for The James Beard Foundation and is a member of the Hebrew Free Loan Society’s Next Generation Steering Committee.

These are just a few reasons we chose Alex Djaha as one of Connect CRE’s New York & Tri-State Next Generation Award winners. Connect CRE’s annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders who will have a strong influence on the commercial real estate industry.
