DLA Piper partner J. Pieratt’s practice focuses on representing national and regional investors, businesses, developers, and lenders in acquiring, developing, financing, selling and leasing commercial real property in Texas and throughout the United States. Pieratt is also experienced in helping his clients navigate associated litigation, employment and regulatory hurdles.

His recent significant experience includes ongoing representation of AECOM in leasing their USA and Canadian portfolios. He has also represented Transwestern Development Company in purchasing numerous raw land parcels in Central Texas and associated development activities.

Outside his regular practice, Pieratt is dedicated to pro bono, serving as a member of DLA Piper’s North American Pro Bono Committee and the Pro Bono Coordinator for the firm’s Austin office. He has represented the Houston Food Bank, Moss Pieratt Foundation, Friends of the ABC Kite Festival, Inc., ReGroup Foundation and other entities in connection with numerous pro bono matters. Pieratt has also represented several “Debtors Prison” cases through Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS) and helps staff the VLS monthly clinic at Webb Middle School in Northeast Austin.

This is why J. Pieratt received Connect CRE’s 2024 Texas Lawyers in Real Estate Award. The award celebrates real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their practice and the larger community.
