Represented Bally's Corporation in connection with Chicago's first casino
Third woman to serve on Akerman's Executive Committee
Meg George, an Akerman partner, is a veteran lawyer advising municipalities, developers, small businesses and Fortune 500 companies on real estate and municipal law matters. These include the acquisition, sale and development of real estate, land use and zoning, licensing, permitting, subdivision, and other real estate matters.
George represented Bally’s Corporation for several years in connection with Chicago’s first casino. Additional representation included acquiring the existing industrial Tribune Publishing Center property and seeking the rezoning of Planned Development 1426, encompassing an indoor sports and recreation facility, 500 hotel rooms, 437,000 square feet of gaming, restaurants, and entertainment venues with 3,300 on-site parking spaces.
George also represented hotel operator Sonder in obtaining city approvals and licensing for short-term leasing of 92 units in Chicago’s South Loop.
George also serves in numerous leadership positions within Akerman, which have enhanced the firm’s recruiting and retention efforts. She is the third woman to serve as a member of the firm’s seven-member Executive Committee; she is the youngest person ever appointed to the firm’s highest governing body.
George is a member of the Akerman Foundation, serving as one of the firm leaders with a mandate to expand the firm’s impact in the communities the firm serves through community partnerships, pro bono legal service, and employee volunteerism.
She has appeared in Chamber USA in the Real Estate and The Legal 500 United States for Real Estate. She’s been listed as one of “Chicago’s Notable Women Lawyers” by Crain’s Chicago Business. George was also recognized for “Collaborative Leadership” by Corporate Counsel Magazine’s Women, Influence, and Power in Law awards.
These are just a few reasons we chose Meg George as one of the Chicago-Midwest Connect CRE’s 2023 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and play key mentorship roles for others.
