As Associate with DLA Piper, Kaila Sergent represents real estate private equity funds, REITs, developers and other institutional clients in a broad range of commercial real estate transactions. These include acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, financing and development of a wide variety of asset types. Sergent focuses on both single asset and large portfolio acquisitions and dispositions with purchase prices reaching up to $1 billion. Her deals include student housing projects, senior housing projects, hotels, and medical office and life science buildings.
She is also a trusted advisor to national clients on all types of leasing matters. She negotiates leases on behalf of landlords and tenants of office (including medical office), retail, co-working and industrial space in a variety of properties.
Sergent is a frequent presenter at firm-wide and local training academies. In early 2023, she presented information on real estate acquisitions and dispositions at DLA Piper’s transactional law bootcamp for young lawyers through the Legal Mentor Network. She also spoke about real estate matters as part of a three-person panel at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.
She is committed to training and mentoring junior attorneys and is also a Jump Start mentor for new associates. Sergent also participates in the Collegiate Scholars mentoring program, formed by DLA Piper and Accenture.
