Named construction practice group leader with Bilzin Sumberg in July

More than 30 years of experience in construction law

Longtime board member, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami

While only 19% of law firm equity partners are women, and with women currently making up less than 10% of the construction industry, Joy Spillis Lundeen, attorney and construction practice group leader with Bilzin Sumberg, is changing the narrative in more than one industry.

Lundeen joined Bilzin Sumberg last year amidst the pandemic and in July 2021, was appointed PGL of the firm’s construction law practice (becoming one of only two female PGLs at Bilzin Sumberg). She and her team specialize in contract negotiation and risk management, as well as counseling clients’ development activities from site acquisition to the conclusion of the warranty period for a finished project.

With more than 30 years of experience representing real estate developers and owners in all facets of project planning, execution and litigation, Lundeen attributes her success to lessons she learned from her father, renowned Miami architect Peter Spillis, and her 16 years as a competitive swimmer. She was taught the values of perseverance, teamwork and surrounding herself with diverse women and men of integrity, which is why she always looks to hire talented people regardless of gender or background.

Lundeen is a longtime board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami.

These are just a few of the reasons we chose Spillis Lundeen as one of the 2020 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.

About Lisa McDuffie

Lisa McDuffie arrives at ConnectCRE via REALTOR® world, where she served for nearly two decades as communications director for one of the nation’s largest REALTOR® organizations. She supported two membership-elected presidents who were commercial real estate practitioners, and managed the communications initiatives of the organization’s commercial special interest group. When not following the latest commercial real estate news, Lisa is zeroed in on her charismatic off-the-track thoroughbred as she makes the transition from an utterly failed racehorse to a lovely show hunter.
