Caton earned his bachelor of science in environmental science with a concentration in environmental engineering from the Institute of Environment and Sustainability at UCLA.
Prior to joining Sustento, Caton gained firsthand experience implementing climate policies and programs during a yearlong fellowship with the University of California's Carbon Neutrality Initiative.
Since graduating, Caton has proactively earned his LEED Green Associate credential and was named a Linda Latham Scholar by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).
Sustainability is the way of the future for commercial real estate investing, and Nick Caton is laying the groundwork. As a data and technology associate for Sustento Group, Caton assists the team by collating and analyzing information to better understand potential growth opportunities that drive a successful triple bottom line for both Sustento and its clients. He is responsible for integrating environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) risks and opportunities into business strategies, implementing innovative technologies to solve complex ESG challenges and researching novel green building policies.
Caton demonstrates deep ambition and drive, qualities that not only make him an invaluable member of the team, but also materially contribute to the growth and success of Sustento. In his first full-time role since graduation, Caton has remarkably helped launch the firm’s corporate sustainability consulting arm by mastering the alphabet soup of ESG frameworks and strategies relevant to commercial real estate. As project manager, Caton’s strategic and well-rounded approach to projects has elevated the quality of output the Sustento team produces for its clients. His efforts support the work Sustento does with the city of Los Angeles and the L.A. Department of Water and Power, as well as for large institutional REITs with assets under management totaling more than $140 billion.
