Marika Reuling Leads Team Shaping Long-Term Vision for Harvard-Owned Land
As Managing Director, Urban District Initiatives for Harvard University Planning & Design, Marika Reuling leads the team shaping the long-term vision for hundreds of acres across Cambridge, Allston, and the Longwood Medical Area. The team ideates, experiments, evaluates, recommends, and implements new approaches to city-building. She joined Harvard in 2009, at a time when the university was thinking about how to be a responsible steward of the 360 acres it owns in Allston, across the Charles River from Cambridge, and was part of a team that produced a 2011 report laying out principles for Harvard’s decades-long development plans.
Reuling has experience in entrepreneurial, corporate and non-profit environments. She has played an active role in more than $10 billion worth of investment and development activities and has contributed to the creation or re-positioning of more than 30 million square feet across her career.
Prior to her role as Managing Director, Reuling served in a variety of roles both at Harvard, including as the Chief of Staff to Harvard’s Executive Vice President Katherine N. Lapp, and in the private sector. In addition to her work at Harvard University, Reuling is a principal at Reuling Vineyard, a pinot noir and chardonnay producer located on California’s Sonoma Coast. She is also an advocate for maternal-fetal health, health disparities, and disability services.
Reuling was named a “Top 40 Under 40” by the Boston Business Journal in 2019 and as a Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Emerging Leader in 2015. She was part of the team of female real estate professionals conferred the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Achievement Award for Networking in 2015.
These are just a few reasons Marika Reuling is among the Boston & New England Connect CRE 2026 Women in Real Estate Award winners. The award honors the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and taken on mentorship roles.
