Berkadia Managing Director, Mortgage Banking-FHA/HUD Carolyn Whatley has over 25 years of experience in the mortgage banking and apartment development industry. She has closed over $1 billion in multifamily, student housing, senior housing, healthcare and commercial real estate loans across 43 states.

For more than 20 years, Whatley specialized in originating FHA insured (HUD) transactions for market rate and affordable housing properties nationwide. Her successes have included closings for refinance, acquisition, new construction, sub-rehab of market rate, low-income housing tax credit, historic tax credit and tax-exempt bond transactions. In addition to the HUD programs, she has experience with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, bank, conduit and municipal pension fund placements.

Whatley has served as an active Southeast Mortgagee Advisory Council board member since 2009, including a term as its president. This organization works directly with the region’s HUD offices, lenders and third-party vendors to educate and improve the process. She is a member of CREW Palm Beach/Treasure Coast and CREW Miami, as well as the Women’s Affordable Housing Network (WAHN).
