Althea Broughton, Arnall Golden Gregory LLP (AGG) Real Estate partner and Affordable Housing team member, is a preeminent attorney in the real estate industry and a key player in creating or preserving tens of thousands of affordable housing units. Broughton led transactions for joint ventures, mixed-income housing, mixed-use developments, public/private partnerships, private equity, and conventional and government-based debt financing. She is involved with federal, state and local subsidies.

She recently led AGG’s representation of National Church Residences in the $48 million acquisition and redevelopment financing of three senior affordable housing projects in Union City, GA. Broughton also represented H.J. Russell & Company, one of the largest African American-owned construction services businesses in the U.S., in a joint venture with Place Properties in the development financing of Marchon, a mixed-use, mixed-income multifamily project in Atlanta.

Broughton is a fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL) and recently completed a term on the Governing Committee for the American Bar Association Forum for Affordable Housing and Community Development Law.

Broughton serves on the board of National Church Residences, Drew Charter School, Atlanta Beltline Partnership, and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. She is also chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, chair of the Board of Trustees for Cascade United Methodist Church, and vice chair of the Atlanta Community Food Bank Board of Directors.

She received the National CREW Impact Award for Economic and Community Improvement. She was recognized among the Atlanta 500 by Atlanta Magazine, Women of Influence by Atlanta Tribune, and Women Who Mean Business by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Broughton was also named Hero for HOPE by HOPE Atlanta, Globe St. Woman of Influence, Most Effective Deal Maker by the Daily Report Georgia Legal Awards, and Law and Justice Woman of the Year.

Broughton received her J.D. from the University of Virginia.
