Stephen L. Rabinowitz is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s global real estate practice and chair of the New York real estate practice. He serves as an adviser to a wide variety of private equity funds, asset managers, developers, and institutional and entrepreneurial investors and operators in the acquisition, financing, development, sale and leasing of all classes of commercial properties including multi-family, office, hospitality, and condominium properties. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to venture formation and engineering sophisticated capital structures.
Highlights of Rabinowitz’s experience include the following:
- Represented Maximus Real Estate Partners in the transformation of Parkmerced, a multi-family community in San Francisco with more than 5,700 stable housing units and another 6,000 units under development. Rabinowitz has been the lead legal counselor to the owners of Parkmerced since 2005 and has advised on all aspects of the project including equity capitalization, financing, development, and technology to help bring to fruition Maximus’ vision of the first sustainable and completely carbon neutral residential development.
- Represented SL Green Realty Corp. in connection with the purchase of 11 Madison Ave., the historic New York City office tower on the east side of Madison Square Park, for more than $2.25 billion. Reported to be the second largest office building transaction ever.
- Counseled Qatari Diar Investment Company in a joint venture with Tishman Speyer to construct a 1.1-million-square- foot mixed-use development in Long Island City.
- Represented 233 S. Wacker LLC in the $1.3-billion sale of former Sears Tower in Chicago to Blackstone. Reported to be the largest U.S. office transaction outside of New York.
