Focuses on complex real estate transactions including joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions

Recognized as a leading real estate lawyer by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 U.S. since 2015

A real estate partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis, Joshua Hanna focuses on complex real estate transactions including joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions as well as financing, development, management and restructuring of real estate assets. He advises private equity sponsors, publicly traded investment firms, REITs, foreign pension funds and other institutional investors and developers in transactions involving various asset classes, including multifamily, industrial, office, hospitality and opportunity zones.

Hanna has been recognized as a leading real estate lawyer by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 U.S. since 2015 and by The Best Lawyers in America since 2018. In Chambers USA’s 2020 edition, a source commented that he “understands complex business concepts and incorporates them in a way that is clear, eloquent, and thoughtful.”

Prior editions noted he is “an excellent lawyer,” “very practical,” “very thoughtful, analytical and he thinks outside the box” and is “commercial and knowledgeable.” Chambers USA has further noted that Hanna “has an increasingly prominent presence in the real estate market” and is described by his clients as “a rising star who’s super-confident and gets things done” and as “a very user-friendly and smart guy who does a good job,” with “notable expertise in the hospitality sector.”

These are some of the reasons that we named Hanna to our Chicago & Midwest grouping of Lawyers in Real Estate. These are real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in both their practice and the larger community.
