Stephen Toohill, a partner at the San Diego business law firm of Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith LLP, is a veteran commercial real estate attorney who’s been recognized time and again by colleagues, peers and clients for his skilled representation across industries. Across the West Coast, Toohill is sought out by commercial, retail, hospitality, industrial and biotech developers, owners and tenants.
For more than 35 years, Toohill has represented developers, owners and tenants in acquisition, development, leasing and sale of improved and unimproved properties. He also has extensive experience in mixed-use high-rise commercial development, particularly representing landlords and tenants in commercial leasing transactions, hotel acquisitions and representation of borrowers in complex loan and loan workout transactions.
Recently, Toohill represented a San Francisco development company working on a high-rise mixed-use project that is part of the San Francisco Transbay Terminal Center, as well as representing a significant public company, Viasat, Inc., in connection with their real estate needs throughout the United States. Additionally, as part of a hospitality-related practice, Toohill is currently representing a hospitality company in acquiring and financing hotel properties.
Over the past year, Toohill has assisted a San Diego-based company in acquiring and converting an existing office building into a high-end medical use property, has negotiated significant master lease transactions for an owner of coastal property in La Jolla, and has assisted clients in acquiring ranch properties throughout various Northern California areas.

In this capacity, he oversees daily operations while also reporting on both local/regional markets and national trends, covering individual transactions across all property types, as well as delving into broader subject matter. He produces 15-20 daily news stories per day and works with the Connect team and clients to develop longer-form content, ranging from Q&As to thought-leadership pieces.
Prior to joining Connect, Paul was Managing Editor for both Real Estate Forum and GlobeSt.com at American Lawyer Media, where he oversaw operations at both publications while also producing daily news and feature-length articles. His tenure in B2B publishing stretches back into the print era, and he has served as Editor in Chief on four national trade publications.
Since 1999, Paul has volunteered as the newsletter editor of passenger rail advocacy groups (one national, one local).
