Google Pauses Planned Office Expansion in Kirkland

Google’s office expansion and growth plans east of Seattle are seemingly on hold, according to a new report from real estate firm Broderick Group.

The tech giant had previously planned a 760,000-square-foot campus with four buildings in Kirkland, but according to the report, Google seems to have paused those plans. Google has not moved forward with plans to construct the fourth building on its Kirkland campus.

Similar to Microsoft and other key players downsizing office space amid hybrid work, Google has also been decreasing its footprint in Seattle, as well. The company is exiting 52,000 square feet at the West Dock building in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood, making way for nonprofit PATH to move into the space.

Meanwhile, the broader tech landscape in the Seattle area has also seen tech companies like The Pokémon Company and TikTok owner ByteDance sign large new leases in the area.
