Bears Revisit Stadium Talks with City of Chicago

In a recent letter to season-ticket holders, Chicago Bears President Kevin Warren said the team had started back up discussions about the team’s future with the City of Chicago. The update offers a glimmer of hope for the possibility of a new indoor stadium complex in downtown Chicago.

In the letter, Warren acknowledged that Arlington Heights and other municipalities were still under consideration, but the current focus is building a new stadium in Chicago itself. Originally built in 1924, Soldier Field is among the smallest stadiums in the NFL.

The team has been in talks with the city and several suburbs about a potential move away from Soldier Field. The franchise paid $197 million to buy Arlington International Racecourse, with plans to build an indoor stadium as part of a $5 billion entertainment complex. After taxes were raised substantially on the property, the Bears began the process of demolishing the facilities.
