Bears Begin Arlington Demo Despite Uncertainty
While the Chicago Bears continue to shop for prospective places to call home amid financing issues for Arlington Heights, the team began exterior demolition at Arlington Park, reported Crain’s Chicago Business.
The work is the first step to transforming the former Arlington International Racecourse Park into a new entertainment district and home venue after the Bears completed the purchase of the property for $197 million earlier this year.
The exterior work comes as the Bears still explore alternate stadium sites. The finality of Arlington Heights as the new stadium location for the team is in jeopardy due to ongoing hurdles with the expense of its property tax assessment.
With the project still in question, the Bears have continued to meet with leadership, including Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, to assess their other options outside of Arlington.
