Marcus & Millichap’s Hessam Nadji: Focus on the Fundamentals

One of the advantages of working for a great leaders is that their leadership styles can provide examples to follow. Hessam Nadji, now CEO of Marcus & Millichap, had the advantage of just such role models earlier in his time with the firm: the company’s founders, George Marcus and Bill Millichap.

“Bill and George were very aligned in the fundamentals of a good, healthy company,” Nadji told Connect media founder and CEO Daniel Ceniceros on a recent visit to Marcus & Millichap’s headquarters in Calabasas, CA. He added that their focus on the fundamentals, and the principles they followed, “were things they really didn’t have to articulate, because they lived it.”

Connect CRE is capping our month-long “Leading in Tough Times” series with a four-part video interview with Nadji, conducted by Ceniceros. Parts 1 and 2 appear below. In Part 1, Nadji shares “Leadership Lessons I’ve Learned,” including the examples set by the founders of Marcus & Millichap.

In Part 2, Nadji discusses “How I Lead.” A meeting with his executive board, he said, is “a daily reminder of those fundamentals. And it’s a daily reminder of where we’re taking the company–not for the next three to five quarters, but for the next three to five years, and then beyond that.”

Marcus & Millichap is beginning the fall with two timely webcasts.
