Year Over Year: U.S. Population Growth By the Seconds
New year, new people, says the numbers. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as of January 1, 2018, the world’s population is at 7,444,443,881, which represents a 1.07% increase since January 1, 2017 (78,521,283 growth in numbers).
In the United States alone, the growth year over year is estimated to be 0.71%, or 2,314, 238 people. The data suggests there is a birth every 8 seconds and a death every 10 seconds. Net migration to the U.S. brings one new person in every 29 seconds. With this combination, that means one person is added to the country’s population every 18 seconds.
The nation is estimated to take up 4.4% of the global total, coming in third on the list of the most populous countries, behind China and India, and followed by Indonesia.
