Where Do People Live Longest?
Average life expectancy increases with time, but the data fluctuates based on one’s location, and even one’s sex. Across the world, let’s take a look at the places where people tend to live the longest:
- 89.73 years – Although it’s the second smallest and most densely populated country in the world, Monaco places first in life expectancy. It’s also home to the most millionaires and billionaires per capita, which may play a role. Could the secret be the largely Mediterranean diet?
- Macau: 84.41 years – 70% of the Chinese territory’s largely gambling-based economy is invested back into its healthcare.
- San Marino: 83.01 years – Landlocked by Italy, San Marino has 30,000 citizens, boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, and has no national debt.
- Iceland: 81.28 years – Despite the cold temperatures, the country has low levels of heart disease and depression, which may be linked to their diet rich in fish oil.
- Sardinia: 81 years- 120 miles off of Italy’s coast, the island has the world’s highest ratio of centenarians at 22 per 100,000 people. The island’s main diet is plants and beans, and goat and sheep’s milk. Meat isn’t too common.
Whether it’s the investment in healthcare, daily diet, or quality of life, these beautiful locations provide their aging population with a lot to live for!
