What’s Cooking in Kitchen Design
The Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University noted that home improvement spending is expected to grow to $318.6 billion by Q1 2018, even though home renovations are expected to slow down, overall. And, for many homeowners, the kitchen is a popular remodeling/renovation spot.
According to a Houzz & Home survey released in 2016 (the most recent report available), common reasons for a kitchen renovation are to refresh outdated designs, and to upgrade appliances. Homeowners spent 12% more on kitchen remodels in 2015 than they did the year before.
When it comes to appliances, “smart” is in, with ovens that can be set on “pre-heat” from a smart phone, and refrigerators that send their contents to a mobile device. However, the most inventive upgrades have been low tech – one dishwasher offers a third rack, specifically for bowls, long utensils and other hard-to-fit kitchen tools.
