Tujia Challenges Airbnb’s Global Footprint
Tujia, an Airbnb-like company with a sweeping presence in China, has rolled out plans to elevate international operations. The 2011-founded home-rental company aims to increase efforts in destinations like South Korea and Japan. Tujia’s bookings in the latter country have quadrupled in recent months.
“We know China travelers the best,” Tujia’s Melissa Yang told CNN. “We follow whatever Chinese travelers want.”
The expansion comes as Airbnb makes for an overdue push in the region. The American-based company currently has 80,000 listings in China. By comparison, Tujia has 430,000. The companies have a similar business model, though Tujia offers additional services, like property cleanings and inspections.
