Toyota and Amazon Bite Into Autonomous Food Trucks and Pop-Up Shops
Toyota Motor Corp. wants Amazon’s help to make futuristic autonomous food trucks and retail pop-up shops. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the automobile company shared its “e-Palette” concept, a highly customizable and electronic food truck of sorts that retailers could use to provide an array of services to their customers. Some of the examples provided were of food trucks, donation-pickups and retail stores.
Members of the e-Palette Alliance include Amazon, Uber, Pizza Hut, Mazda and Didi Chuxing. For the time being, Toyota and its alliance of innovators are working on solidifying the concept that is geared towards autonomy and environmental friendliness through electric power. The company says it wants the boxes on wheels to be available in three sizes and customizable for any user.
Toyota hopes to test the concept’s feasibility in 2020 within the U.S. Until then, it’s Postmates, UberEats and traditional take-out.
