THE HIRING SQUAD: How A Strategic Recruiting Partner Can Support Your Business Growth

National  + Weekender  |

In this edition of The Hiring Squad, Kent Elliott, principal at RETS Associates, a leading national real estate recruiting firm, connects with Holly Treiber, human resources manager at CenterPoint Properties, a market leader in the development, redevelopment, acquisition and management of industrial real estate. The two discuss the current hiring market in CenterPoint Properties’ core cities, and how the company leveraged a strategic recruiting partner to help manage its growing portfolio.

Elliott (KE): What is your perception of the current hiring market in CenterPoint Properties’ core cities?

Treiber (HT): Right now, hiring is competitive across our target markets, which include Los Angeles, Oakland, New York and Chicago. We find that candidates are not available for very long, so when we find the right talent, we’re agile with our recruitment efforts. To be competitive in this industry, we offer employees the opportunity to work in a positive and supportive environment, with a vibrant company culture and the opportunity to learn from and work alongside the best talent in the industry.

KE: As CenterPoint Properties continues to grow and expand into new markets, what is the company doing to quickly and effectively secure high-quality candidates?

HT: As we continue to grow our portfolio, we’ve leveraged a partnership with RETS Associates (RETS) to secure industry talent that are not only qualified but match our company culture. RETS has an in-depth understanding of the industrial real estate market, a proven track record and a great network of candidates. Since 2015, the firm has been a primary resource for CenterPoint Properties, helping us staff up as we continue to grow as a company and expand into new markets.

Over the years, RETS has helped us fill several industrial real estate positions, including development managers and property managers from Los Angeles to Northern California to Chicago. With a deep candidate pool and a thorough vetting process, we can rely on RETS to secure high-quality candidates quickly – no matter where the position is located.

KE: What advice do you have for companies in industrial real estate looking to hire top talent?

HT: Move quickly. In this competitive hiring market, when you find the right talent, you must act fast if you want them on your team. Be sure to partner with a strong recruitment firm that understands your business needs, company culture and has a good reach into the industry’s candidate pool. At CenterPoint Properties, we rely heavily on our partnership with RETS as we continue to grow our business. When we reach out to them to discuss a new position or the type of hire we need, they already have a few individuals in mind – that’s how well they know us.
