Tesla Leases 150K-SF at Hayward Industrial Facility

Once again, it appears Tesla isn’t abandoning California completely as the automotive and clean energy company has signed a 149,000-square-foot lease at a Prologis-owned industrial building at 22290 Hathaway Avenue in Hayward, CA. The lease follows Tesla’s move in February to a former HP site in Palo Alto to establish its engineering HQ.

The San Francisco Business Times reports that Tesla’s Hayward lease represents half of the 297,000-square-foot facility, with the second half of the building still available for lease. KBC Advisors’ Sam Higgins and Tom Damaschino represented Prologis in the transaction which acquired the building in 2018 as part of its $8.5 billion acquisition of DCT Industrial Trust.

Tesla has not stated what the facility will be used for, but it’s located just east of Interstate 880 and a short 20 minute drive to the company’s original auto manufacturing plant in south Fremont, CA.
