States With the Largest and Smallest Gender Wage Gap
Payscale’s 2016 Gender Pay Gap Report found that the Northeast is the most equal region in the United States when it comes to the discrepancy between male and female wages. In general, the nationwide average is that women get paid 76% of what men earn, which translates to 76 cents to the dollar. Here’s how the states rank:
Most Equal:
- Vermont
- Maine
- Rhode Island
- Montana
- Nevada
Least Equal:
- Wyoming
- Alabama
- Louisiana
- Texas
- Michigan
There’s good news to be gleaned regarding this news, and that’s the fact that the wage gap shrunk in 2016 compared to 2015.
